“This off-the-charts project flies in the face of long held community desires. In fact, it conflicts with multiple items in our city charter.
Remember that residents have already publicly expressed these desires by voting them into our charter: maximum allowable building heights, maximum limits on leases of public property, and restrictions on the private/commercial use of public property.
City staff have confirmed that this project would require multiple city-wide referendum questions to be put on the ballot. In short, we would be asking voters to undo previous votes taken by Lake Worth citizens.
I believe that most in our community do not want our public assets turned over to private developers. No matter how slick and shiny the snake oil, I believe our residents want our beach to continue as a public park; a healthy, special place for kids, for families and for seniors.“
